The wedding
Madrid 2026I’m sitting at a burger place in Burgos (city name unrelated to burgers). I’m hungover but it’s not terrible. As it always happens when I’m hungover, I get feelings of embarrassment and regret even though there was nothing out of the ordinary. I danced, ate, spoke to a few people, all was good, so where does the embarrassment come from? I suspect it’s a conditioned response the hangover is associated with embarrassment.
The wedding in itself was very nice. The groom and the bride printed a photo of each guest and wrote a personal note on each of them. Mine was selfie I took for the team, I can’t remember the reason, and the note behind it expressed gratitude about my presence and an invitation to outdrink Álvaro during the event. I don’t know if I outdrank him, we didn’t care and drank copious amounts even without the competition.
The church ceremony took place in the temple of Covarrubias, and then we moved to a garden venue where the reception included very good wine, ham, cheeses and all sort of delicacies. Then a late lunch, a live band, a dj and hard liquor, and then late night snacks.
I made it back to Burgos in one of the buses they rented for the event. I was very tired and drunk, and fell asleep on the sidewalk waiting for a taxi. After about an hour a young woman woke me up “are you with the wedding?” yes I said, I’m waiting for a taxi. She said a taxi would never appear in this part of the city, and instructed me to walk to a more busy street. I went to the busy street and waited until fell asleep again.
I finally gave up and started walking the 8Km to the hotel. Half-way there I finally found a cab, and asked the driver to charge my dead phone as I wouldn’t be able to pay him otherwise. Fortunately he was carrying the right cable. It took me many failed stabs at the keyhole before finally being able to open the door. I undressed and I made it to bed.
The next day (today) I went to the museum of evolution of Burgos, which I will always visit when I come to this city. I’ll write about the visit on a separate entry, because this entry is to remember the wedding.
