Batalla naval and world cup
Madrid 2026Yesterday I attended Valleca’s batalla naval as I did last year. I didn’t have as much fun, in part because I had to leave early, but I’m surely looking forward to this event every year, I love it.
The reason I had to leave early was because I was invited to watch the match at a bar with some people from my MeetUp group (including V.). As I made my way to this bar, which was far away from home, I passed the giant screens the city government set up and the ambiance was amazing. Most people hate it, but I love crowds of people and their energy, especially when we are collectively experiencing something (like a concert or a sports match).
The bar was disappointing. Just a bar. My MeetUp friends are not that much into football and were talking over the game. Even if I’m not that much into it either, I hate that. It’s like going to a movie and people making conversation. Armchair observations stating the obvious. I don’t know if I was resentful that I ended my water fight early for a subpar experience watching the game or what. Therapist Claude has recommended not giving closure to my aggravations on the same day, so I will do just that: I felt I have more fun alone than when I’m with friends. Truth is that I’ll be bored even with the alternative at this moment of my life.
The World Cup winners are parading through Cibeles this night, just a 15 minute walk from home. I ought to leave now if I want to make it, but I’m tired, currently enjoying being at the couch typing. I already saw yesterday’s celebration, it was mayhem!
